Kennar Lewis finally came good in the previous game for the Candy Warriors, but that wasn’t enough to help him win. No one else in the batting lineup was able to contribute. Charith Asalanka was impressive but his inability to turn his start into big results was very disappointing.
None of the other batsmen are in really good shape and it’s hard to see them able to change things at this late stage of the tournament.
Kandy’s bowling attack is also one of the weakest in the entire LPL. Lahiro Kumara and Pinora Fernando top the list, but both can be very expensive as well. There is also a lack of a world-class bowling option.
Team Dambulla Giants
The Dambulla Giants lost a high-scoring game due to rain against galle Gladiators in the previous round. This wasn’t really a loss to worry about. The nature of the format is that teams will always lose one or two games. The fact that the Dambola Giants were able to play hard and get closer is more important.
Philip Salt, Dyson Shanaka and Najibullah Zadran are in good condition. It was also encouraging to see Janith Lianage enjoying freedom in the previous game.
The Giants’ bowling attack is part of the weak link. Ramesh Mendes, Imran Tahir, and Joshua Little are good Pauline players but they have been very expensive in this version of the Sri Lanka Premier League so far.
Kandy Warriors, though, may struggle to take advantage of bowling weaknesses.
